A Day in the Life a Student

October 28

This article is making the teacher rounds right now. What do you think your teachers would learn if they spent a day in your shoes? What don’t we understand about your life?

Take a look and see if you agree with what the writer discovers:

Homecoming!

October 15

It’s been a fun spirit week and the rally and parade tomorrow should be a really good time. Sophomores, we will wind down the French Revolution next week and launch into our first formal essay. By Tuesday, make sure you know what’s up with the Revolution. By that I mean the events and the players and the time frame. If you have that down, all you have to worry about are the specifics of the essay. If you don’t know what’s going on, you will have double duty of catching up on the narrative AND figuring out how to write a good essay.

Turn Out for What?

October 10

So, I have a question. Despite TONS of talk about engagement and body, mind, spirit presence and the importance of learning, I don’t feel much improvement. Quiz scores and class discussions show me that many students are still not learning the material or grasping what we need to know. Yet, I don’t get many clarifying questions, even when I ask for them. The expectations have been made very clear, in my opinion.

So what gives? What’s going on? Why are we still not learning?

I am truly and sincerely interested in your perspective. Please post comments here with ideas. Or, if you’d rather it be private, email me at Siobhan-reilley@scuds.edu

October is Here!

Oct. 2

Another busy week comes to an end. Per usual, we are ending the week with a bang. Sophomores, you have a project due. APers, we’ll continue our work on analysis and summary.

And welcome, Ms. Burger! I am looking forward to her interacting and working with 1st and 2nd periods in the near future. I know we all will miss Ms. DeSantis until she returns, we are so lucky to have two such awesome young teachers with us this year.

Check your class pages for more information about the week and upcoming stuff.
